Breakfast at Our Historic Alyssa House Inn
Breakfast is a large part of the service we offer, and always a special treat. Our ingredients are all locally grown and organic, and we are always careful to accommodate special diets to the best of our ability. Please let us know of any special dietary need such as food allergies, lactose intolerance, etc. when you reserve your room so that we can accommodate your needs when you arrive. Menus vary from traditional quiche to breakfast quesadillas. Scones and muffins are freshly baked.
Breakfast is served around 8:30 a.m. and consists of fruit, a main course with eggs and meat and a muffin or bread. If you anticipate an early departure, let us know and we can pack a “to go” bag for you.
A sample of our favorites:
Lavender Scones (from Shore Thing Lavender Farm)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup Sugar (with 1 to 2 tsp of Lavender)
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/3 tsp Salt
- 3/4 cup Butter
- 9 Tbsp milk
- 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 1/2 tsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl, cut in the butter with a fork or pastry cutter until combined and looks like coarse crumbs. Whisk together wet ingredients and add to dry, mix well to form a soft dough. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, knead about 5 times and pat or roll into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes and arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for approx. 11 to 14 minutes until bottoms and edges are lightly tanned.
1 Cup Powdered Sugar
2 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
Mix until desired consistency and drizzle over warm scones. Sprinkle with Lavender Buds.
